A Bite to Eat and Historic Charleston Houses.
We went to lunch at Tommy Condon’s Irish Pub. That mess in front of me is Shephard’s Pie. It was good, but Jon ordered a Reuben. And it was the best I’ve ever had.
Next, we went to the battery to visit the Edmondston-Alston house. We weren’t allowed to take any pictures in the house, but we did get some good shots outside the house.
It was a nice day. Everybody was out sailing.
We didn’t actually tour this house, but isn’t this iron gate fence awesome?
Here is a house we did tour – the Aiken-Rhett house. Built in 1818.
My favorite parts of this house tour were that it was self guided with an mp3 player, and that the house wasn’t fully restored after the damaging Hurricane Hugo. It’s cool to see how devastating the hurricane was, but also, the damage to the walls of the house shows its rich history. You could see layers of paint/wallpaper and just imagine the generations of family that had lived in this house.
These first few pictures are of the slave quarters. The owners had several slave families living in a house in their backyard.
Here is a view of the back of the house. It was huge!
Inside the house.
This coming weekend is our last to enjoy our Tourist in your own Town passes. I’m totally sad about it.
But, tomorrow we will be celebrating our anniversary at a fancy restaurant. On Saturday night we are having movie night with friends, and I have a friend from high school I’m hoping to meet up with. Also, we are going to get out to see some plantations and the Hunley.
So it should be a fun weekend! I hope you have a good weekend too!
