Spring Break 2011!
The good news about being in your mid 20s and still in school is that you still get to celebrate spring break! (Well, only Jon is in school right now but that will be changing soon!)
Anyway, this year we drove down the West Coast and basically made lemonade out of life’s lemons. Let me explain, Jon was asked to present at a research conference in San Diego over spring break (lame, I had already been to San Diego!). But then we found out that he didn’t have to be there until the last day so we decided to fly out to Seattle instead and drive the whole coast down to his research conference!
Best idea yet.
So sorry about the blog hiatus, but I’ve been busy driving 1900 miles down the West Coast. The good news (or maybe bad news) is that I now have a TON of pictures to post ! Yay! I thought I’d post the pictures per vacation day, and I promise I won’t feel bad if you start quickly skimming through if it starts to become too picture overload. Especially because I won’t even know you are doing it!
So here is day 1 of Spring Break 2011. As said, we started in Seattle because my lovely brother Grant and his family live in Elma (a small town just outside the city). And we were so happy they could meet up with us in Seattle for some fun!
First, we went to Pike’s Market.
We of course had to get the doughnuts. SO GOOD!
It was rainy while we were in Seattle. How weird…

A small child was staring this fish in the face when it suddenly slid forward right at him! He jumped about ten feet! And I did too.

When we were all done browsing Pike’s Market, we met up with Grant and Julie and all the kids at the gum wall.
Julie came prepared with Bubble Tape for everyone!

Next, we went to the Pacific Science Center and learned about dinosaurs, the planets, and watched the IMAX movie Shackleton’s Anartic Adventure. The movie showed a team of explorers who got stuck in Antarctica for over a year in the early 1900s. Afterward, Jon told me I could never say I’m cold again. Haha.
Here are a bunch of good pictures of Sammie, Scottie, Cooper, and Everett outside the museum!

This is Grant with Sammie right behind him. Both Grant and Julie did a good job of teaching the kids about everything on display.
We had a fun time with the family in Seattle! That night we had a great dinner, and had fun hanging out at their house!
Stay tuned for Day 2: A home video, our first day in Oregon, a wallet mishap, Astoria, and Newport!
