Spiders and Beach Time.

Every summer our condos attract these banana spiders.

They look really scary, especially when I show you, in this picture, how they compare to a spider that would be considered a large house spider.  It’s essentially the size of the palm of Jon’s hand. But hey, I live in the south where bugs are bigger and brighter!  Hooray, for the many charms of living in the south!

I know they look scary, but they are not.  You might be scared the first time you see one (and I should note, they are always outside, never inside), but then you realize that they never move an inch. It’s really hard to be scared of something that never moves.  Isn’t that the scariest part about spiders anyway, how they can go from perfectly still to speed-crawling across the room in an instant? Now that’s scary.

Side note: aren’t these spider pictures incredible? That’s the real reason I’m posting about these spiders because these pictures deserve to be seen. Good job on the photography, Jon.

Yesterday we went to the beach for several hours.  It felt amazing.  Since we might only be living next to this beach for two more years, I have vowed that we have to get out there at least once a week until we move somewhere new.  It shouldn’t be too hard, we only live ten minutes away.

My friends Lauren and Jonathan (not pictured) came and hung out with us.  Lauren is in my OT class so we studied, but for only a second.

Other beach day activities included building small sand castles….

And hanging out in our beach tent! We got it for a steal at Walmart and it is a must-have for a long beach day.  It keeps you and your stuff cool,  and prevents sun burns (and anxiety about getting a sunburn). Jon took a nap under it and said it was perfect.

I’m going to be having a break from school soon, and I’m excited to be able to go to the beach everyday! With or without Jon.

I’m so ready for my “summer break.” My classes are all ending this week, and then I just have one last anatomy test the following Wednesday on the abdomen and thorax.

By the way, I got my head and neck test back and it was my best score yet! Yes! Remember when I was worried about that score? Thanks everyone for crossing your fingers for me. I’m sure it helped.

On my break, I will have two weeks off and Jon will have about one week.  We will have some friends in town during that time, and we also might head up to Asheville again or even up to see the Outer Banks (both North Carolina) with some friends from Jon’s class.

Can’t wait.
