Fun and Not so Fun.
Last weekend I went with some girls from my class to celebrate Laura’s and Anna Weston’s birthdays (middle on both sides of table). We went to Triangle, and ate burgers, and talked about girl things. Lucky Jon was able to come along because bad weather delayed his flight to the point that his research director cancelled his flight to Chicago! So he came to all my “girls weekend” plans.
This is “The Nap,” a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches instead of buns (and some of my favorite sweet potato fries). I didn’t order this burger, but presumably the girl who did went home and took a nap afterward. Maybe not, she only ate half of it.
On Saturday, while I was studying and making my *lap mat, Jon went downtown with our friend Samir to watch the Portrait Battle.
Basically, throughout the day artists battled other artists in painting/drawing portraits of people, and each time the winner stayed and kept battling. At the end of the day they had a winner, but throughout the day they hung up everybody’s work.
This was one of Jon’s favorites.
Battle!
Samir.
Then Jon and Samir went to Sunset Park to take some pictures of the harbor.
Guys, I have a sad story. I went to Famous Hair and received a bad hair cut. You may have noticed that I’ve been trying to grow my hair out. No, you don’t remember? Here is a refresher of my hair last year. Anyway, I finally felt like my hair was “long” again, and then the hairdresser cut off double what I asked for because “that’s how you do layers.” Sad. I didn’t even ask for layers. I specifically asked for it to be one length, but for the ends to be a little choppy and uneven. Then I motioned with my hands the amount and how to cut it. I could tell right away that she was cutting off too much length, and then when she cut a few framing layers around my face I spoke up. And you know what she said? “I have to cut them to make it even” what…..??????? I tried to make my point and repeated what I had originally asked for and she just got even more mad at me. So I bit my lip. There wasn’t anything I could do about it once it was cut anyway. Then I went home and curled it to make myself feel better. At least you can’t see the layers anymore.
It just sucks when you are waiting patiently for your hair to be long again, and then you lose several months of growth. I’ll just have to wait til next summer to have the flowing locks I’ve been waiting for.
That night Jon pulled out his secret stash of fancy chocolate for me, and Adio cuddled me a lot. I feel better now.
Today I am studying for my pathophysiology test, and then tonight Jon and I are going to a low country boil with friends! Can’t wait!
*the “lap mat” is a weighted mat a child with autism (for example) would place in their lap while eating. The sensory input from the weight is self-organizing, and will help a child focus while eating a meal at the table. I came up with and created it with a friend from class. Cool, right?
